Mermay 2022
‘Mermay’ is a daily art challenge that occurs in May and consists of, you guessed it, creating mermaid-themed art.
This year was my longest commitment to this challenge yet and it really strengthen the value of being a part of such a fun and supportive art community. I learned a lot about myself and the rediscovery of my healthy obsession with mermaids.
Mermaid Cocktails
Alcohol has always been a strong presence in my life. Having lived through challenging family gatherings and developing poor drinking habits of my own, I found a new sense of responsibility to break the cycle and be the example that I never had growing up. This illustration series started as a light and airy concept but quickly turned into a personal venture to heal my indifference towards alcohol and reframe what it means to have drink.
In personifying each unique cocktail with a fun and charming character, I was able to evoke that same fun and relief I feel when sharing drinks, stories and so many laughs with my amazing group of friends. These concepts pull visual cues from various cultures, decades, pop culture and people that inspire me in my own life.
